13. Blue Wind Music Guide

What follows is a list of all the music that appeared in the standard version of Robotech episode 13: "Blue Wind." Bold text denotes that this is the first appearance of that piece of music.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: This episode features three small unreleased pieces of music, but only two of them are new; the third one was originally used in episode 3, "Space Fold." In this episode we also finally get to hear the instrumental version of the "Macross Theme" for the first time. Those of you playing along at home will want to use the version from the Robotech Perfect Collection CD (or the Robotech BGM Vol. 1 LP) released by US Renditions in the late 80's, since it's the only version that accurately reflects its usage in Robotech without the Macross Theme Intro overlapping into it.

12. The Big Escape Music Guide

What follows is a list of all the music that appeared in the standard version of Robotech episode 12: "The Big Escape." Bold text denotes that this is the first appearance of that piece of music.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Some weird manipulations going on in this episode, with two of the "Shocked" pieces sounding like the speed dial was accidentally bumped in the middle of the piece and then quickly reset! I refer to this as a "warble" in the descriptions below.

The only major new piece of music in this episode points out one of the remaining flaws in the 30th Anniversary Soundtrack. This episode is the first time we hear "Lifeline (Instrumental)." The Soundtrack sadly fades the song out before its concluding lines, which is a shame because (a) it's an awesome piece of music and (b) those concluding lines are used for the scene of Rick and Lisa falling into darkness as the episode goes to commercial. According to the liner notes, the vocal version of "Lifeline" was remastered, which certainly implies that they had access to a clean version of the ending and could have restored it to the instrumental. Oh well. Perhaps for the 40th Anniversary.

CORRECTION: When I first posted this, I missed that "Broken Heart" was briefly used at the beginning of the episode (from 2:12 - 2:26). The list as it stands now has been corrected.

11. First Contact Music Guide

What follows is a list of all the music that appeared in the standard version of Robotech episode 11: "First Contact." Bold text denotes that this is the first appearance of that piece of music.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: A whole crop of first-time tracks in the final half of this episode, including Minmei's first time singing "My Time to Be a Star" as she makes her big debut. This episode also marks one of the few times that a different piece of background music than the Robotech theme was used for the next episode preview.

Also, I listed the mix of "Zentraedi Theme" and "Shocked (b)" together because it starts with the drums from "Zentraedi Theme," immediately cuts to "Shocked (b)" and then "Zentraedi Theme" fades back in as "Shocked (b)" is still playing. "Battlestations" is also barely used at all, it's just a quick edit of the final notes after Max kicks the Zentraedi who walked in on him to give closure to the scene.

10. Blind Game Music Guide

What follows is a list of all the music that appeared in the standard version of Robotech episode 10: "Blind Game." Bold text denotes that this is the first appearance of that piece of music.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: We have a new unreleased variation on the Harp Chord that was previously used in "The Long Wait." This could be an actual different recording, or the same recording played back at a different speed, which seemed to be a common practice to make the music fit the length of the clip it was being used on.

We also hear two pieces for the first time that will be used a lot in later generations, The Robotech Masters and Intruder (which always make me think of Invid).
